Netherbane

Demon Hunters in the World of Warcraft

Site Re-construction Under Way

In preparation for Battle for Azeroth and the coming theme-adjustment for the guild, we are doing some further construction on the site. At the moment, you'll see some things shift around, some design elements change or be removed (or new ones added), and other such things.

We plan to have this all completed before Battle for Azeroth launches, but we're not exactly on a time-crunch just yet. Thus, expect to experience our "dust" for a bit between now and then. Don't worry, it'll all settle back to normal soon!

Thanks for your patience!

Biding Time

Vasedra stood in the open iris of what was formerly her workshop along the outer hull of the Legion warship, the Soul Cleaver, staring in at the spacious room. The blueish tint of the lights turned the bright metal of the walls and workbenches - not felsteel, but an alloy of cobalt and ghost iron and an ore that she harvested on a far distant world - more purple than rose, glinting like sunlight off the ocean from the surfaces of tools and crystals, liquids and even decorations, what few survived intact when the Cleaver was grounded, smashing itself into the shelf of the Mac’Aree landmass. Keepsakes. Resources. Half-finished creations. Salvage.

Netherbane: Metamorphosis Prologue

Metamorphosis has been a long time coming, and while the bulk of the story has been finished for nearly a year, the rewrites and restructuring necessary to realign it with RP events has taken some time.

However, I wish to once again offer a preview with the prologue (which has been rewritten and adjusted a few times. So this is that preview:

The demon roared, and the trees around it began to wither. Enraged that its smaller opponent had the gall to still be alive this far into the battle, the creature swung its large sword at the elf with intent to cut him in half.

I will die today, Tharion Greyseer thought as a frown crept across his face. It was not something he thought very often, but he rarely liked it when he did.

As the heavy blade arced towards him, time slowed for the demon hunter. He could see the sword incoming, and he could feel it in the air around him, too. The massive slab of ornate metal cut an invisible wake through the forest. He knew he had less than a heartbeat to react, but his battle focus had increased his perception of time, allowing him to see the flow of events at a more granular level. It was a side effect of his overall heightened senses: he perceived the world with extreme clarity, even with his current exhaustion.

NB20, a System for RP combat and progression

So, earlier this year, I developed a simple system for resolving RP combat and advancing your character in World of Warcraft roleplay. I know that there are other systems out there, but the ones I've run across have either been too simple (they don't actually account for character style, experience, or uniqueness), or too complex (they bring it closer to playing an actual tabletop RPG into WoW, which can be fun, but... we're already playing one game. There's no need for another on top of it).

NB20 was designed to sit somewhere in the middle. It uses a simple point-buy system for attributes, and these attributes are then used to modify the in-game /rolls so as to allow a character some uniqueness among his or her peers.

The beta-version of the NB20 document can be found below:

The NB20 System: Combat Roleplay in the World of Warcraft

The list of existing (revised to match the beta document) stats for Netherbane members and allies can be found here:

Netherbane Member NB20 Stats Spreadsheet

Both of these documents will be updated as the system evolves over time.

If you've used the NB20 system and have constructive feedback, please feel free to leave a comment below. It's undergone a few tweaks here and there, but the testing pool has largely only been within the Netherbane, so it could use some extra eyes.

Reopening the Blog Page for this Site!

So I had been using Enjin to manage our forums and blog, but I've been debating about shutting them down since forums don't seem to get a lot of use these days for a small guild like ours. Most of our members hang out on our Discord server, and a lot of folk completely skip over the web presence.

Because of this, I'm planning on condensing the Netherbane web presence to just this site. I'll likely be posting a link to our Discord for those who wish to contact us and talk Demon Hunter RP, but that'll come later.

The current forums were just paid-for last month, so there are still about 5 months left as of this post. So the forums and their content won't be vanishing immediately. I'll be archiving the stories and RP logs here as well, so not much should be lost.

We'll see how this iteration goes!
