Needing the Legacy
Poeryth-06/13/2018
The human death knight hoped the information she'd received was correct as she rode her phantom horse through Krokuun, brow furrowed as she looked for any signs of her void knight friend. She'd at least managed to avoid any demons, so far, which was in a way almost suspicious. She tried to ignore the paranoid feeling that she was being watched as she continued to search the much-abused land, muttering under her breath.
Rhoelyn
As she crested a rise, the former human found a figure standing in the center of the path, barring her way. The draenic form peers at Poe from the depths of a horned cowl, luminous eyes glowing and familiarly curving blue horns sticking through holes in the fabric.
Her armor is different, unfamiliar though reminiscent of something that is. It's dark metal and blue gems, dull gold accents and eerie hints of movement. And her blades... the blades the woman holds in her clenched fists are smooth and dark, wisping with shadow that makes their graceful forms indistinct and hard to see in detail. Gleaming gems of a black that swirls with dark blue and purple are set in the hafts of the twin blades. It's hard to say in the noisy chaos of Argus, but they almost seem to whisper into the still air.
Something fel and fast streaks across the sky over their heads, and the green light slants across the eredar's face, revealing her level stare and thin lips.
"Poeryth."
It's all she says.
Poeryth
Poe dismounts and dismisses her mount, letting it fade away until she needs it once more. She takes a moment to look Sedra over. She hasn't really gotten much of a chance to talk to anyone about anything aside from the fight against Sraath in the past days, so she has no idea of the events that had transpired between her and Eraelan, or Sedra's state in general. She raises an eyebrow, but simply responds in kind. "Sedra. Glad that I found you. I need to talk to you."
Rhoelyn
The void knight steps closer to her, keeping her swords in hand, though she seems calm enough. "Alright. Talk. I'm busy."
She gestures with one blade at the empty landscape as if somehow that explains what she might be busy with.
Poeryth
Poe glances around, looking at the empty landscape and frowning. She straightens up, a little confused by Sedra's tone and demeanor, then seems to come to a realization and bites her lip. Last time they saw each other Poe tried to kill the void knight after all, and it's entirely possible, and understandable, that that's not been forgiven.
"I won't bother you too long. I need to see the plans for the Sunbreaker." she replies, sticking to the point, a slight urgency in her voice.
She makes note of the swords, and the shadows around her friend, but does not make any connection to the draenei's change in demeanor.
Rhoelyn
Vasedra tilts her head, watching the death knight quietly for a long moment. At one point, her gaze darts to the side and narrows before she refocuses on her friend. "I don't see why you would. Explain it to me."
Poeryth
"It must have some kind of weakness, somewhere. I'd like to see if I can figure it out." Poe explains. She furrows her brow, feeling like something is very wrong with her friend, but she can't pin what it is.
Rhoelyn
There's an indelicate snort from the other woman, and she pointedly asks, "Are you a blacksmith of no small skill?"
Poeryth
Poe is unsure how to respond to that, because the answer is no, and the look on her face is probably telling. "I... look, I am not talking about the physical weapon. I'm talking about the--" she searches for words. "the magical aspects of it. But speaking of blacksmiths, Tharion looked at it right?"
Rhoelyn
"Tharion has seen the plans, yes." The void knight pulls her gaze away from her friend and turns to pace a few steps, her hooves crunching in the dry, rocky dirt. When she finally turns back, there's a brief groan from one of her blades. Sedra's eyes narrow as she glances down at the sword, and it falls silent.
"You're wasting time, Poe. We have to be ready to go soon. Tell me what you're doing here in full, beautifully-succinct detail or get out of my way. I'm busy." She repeats it, again.
Poeryth
Poe looks annoyed now. She doesn't appreciate being lectured about wasting time by someone who is hanging out in Argus apparently clearing empty fields of nonexistent demons or something
She shifts her weight and rolls her eyes, the gesture of vexation only visible because of the shift in her brows and mouth.
"My soul is safe from Sunbreaker because my runeblade serves as a phylactery. That means I can't bring it with me, though. Which leaves me... significantly weaker. I spoke to Tharion and Zhuriel about acquiring a weapon with enough power to make up for my own loss in power. Tharion suggested we could craft it with any weaknesses Sunbreaker has in mind. Zhuriel had a couple ideas but we are unsure if they are viable." She explains, almost sullenly.
"Don't tell me I'm wasting time, you're the one interrogating me like I'm... inept." she says, almost in spite of herself. This is probably something that would normally be left unsaid.
Rhoelyn
For a moment, the other woman's eyes narrow beneath her cowl, and the creak of her gauntlets as her fists tighten around the hilts of her swords is audible. Anger rising to meet anger.
But she doesn't move, and after a heartbeat, she grits her teeth and sheathes her blades in a sudden motion. She glances away before she looks back at Poe and juts her chin towards an outcropping of rocks off the side of the path. A bit of cover.
As she turns and walks away, she says simply, "Who the fel is Zhuriel?"
Poeryth
The undead human starts to say something that is likely snide, but stops. She sighs, rubbing her temples, and begins following the void knight. They -don't- have much time and she can tell something about Sedra isn't right. Not the time to push it.
"He's a blacksmith. Hasn't been around much. He was there when I spoke to Tharion about a new weapon." she explains as they walk.
Rhoelyn
Once they've settled into the lee of the rocks, hidden from easy view, Vasedra turns to Poe with a little sigh. "I'm... angry. But not with you. Be patient. I'll... work on it."
"Zhuriel..." She tastes the name, frowning. "And you think this Zhuriel has the skill to do this? You and Tharion trust him?"
She doesn't even give Poe a chance to answer her own questions before she surges forward, leaning towards the smaller human and resting one hand on the rock. Notably, the air around her isn't as cold as usual.
"I hope you understand that these plans shouldn't be taken - or given - lightly. It is a legacy. The man who made them is long dead, and we are the custodians of his creation, now. I intend to see that they're not abused, again."
Poeryth
"I will treat them with the utmost respect," Poe reassures her with a solemn nod. "I understand this is a serious matter. I would not be asking if it wasn't so dire. And I hope you know me well enough to know that I would not abuse them." she says nothing about any of her friend's other statements. The subject has moved on, and it is urgent. When it's over, if they both make it, she will try to see what she can do to help the former death knight. That 'if' lingers in her mind near constantly, a big part of why she's currently on edge.
Rhoelyn
For a while, Sedra searches her friend's face, a deep, silent inspection. Except for the hint of whispers that may or may not be coming from the sheathed blades.
"And this Zhuriel? You trust him? Tharion does?" She repeats her question pointedly.
Poeryth
"I do," Poe confirms, "and more importantly, Tharion does." her eyes go towards Sedra's own swords, which she's been hearing the entire time but not really thinking about. Still, she quickly shifts her gaze.
"He's a lightforged draenei paladin... thought the Lightforged part is very recent, so I don't think he's got the same fanaticism," she reassures before the other woman can even ask. "However, I'll be the one primarily comparing the design to notes I intend to get my hands on."
Rhoelyn
"... notes?" The void knight's fingers curl against the rock, her plate gauntlets rasping across the surface.
Poeryth
"I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them, particularly since I have about one day..." she cringes, well aware of what a short amount of time that is, "but I have... I know where to find some information on runeblades, and this is what this really is. A very, very powerful runeblade. It eats souls, it gains power from them... I'm hoping between those notes, if I can find them, and these plans, I can get an understanding of how this particular weapon works. Most of our plans are specifically about weakening Sraath right now, but we need to know what we can do about this thing."
Rhoelyn
After another long consideration in which she flicks at the rock as if brushing something away, Sedra finally nods. "Very well. I'll entrust them to you for now."
Poeryth
"I will return them as soon as possible, unharmed, I promise." Poe responds, internally glad that Sedra has no knowledge of the House of Gis' original demands. Not that she would have given in to them, but Sedra seems rather... mentally fragile right now. She is one to talk. She eyes the other knight's blades once more, curiosity mixed with concern.
Rhoelyn
"You will," the eredar says softly as she slips her pack off and brings it around, rummaging inside. "... bring them tonight, when we invade the Eclipse." Her motions are as terse as her words. Impatient. Nervy.
Poeryth
Poe bristles at the draenei's demanding tone, but holds her tongue, pushing her annoyance back as she waits for Sedra to find the plans.
Rhoelyn
After a while, she tugs a leather tube from the bottom and sets the pack down. Unwrapping the ties, she glances inside before she ties it back up and offers it to Poe.
Poeryth
Poe gently takes the leather tube and places it in her own pack, which sits at her hip. She makes sure it's safe in there before closing the pack and tugging on the buckles to make sure it's securely shut. "Thank you for trusting me with this, Sedra." she says sincerely.
Rhoelyn
Her friend's luminous eyes follow her motions until Poeryth speaks, then they flick back to her face. Vasedra glances away.
"Yes. Come back with something you can use against Sraath, and we'll call it even. But come soon. Ary is alive, and I have no intention of waiting until that story changes to go after her." The void knight slings her pack back over her shoulders and steps back.
Poeryth
"I'm glad to hear she's alive," Poe replies, her face brightening. "I've been worried. Trying not to think about it too much, but certainly worried. We'll get her back, I promise."
Rhoelyn
"You can't promise anything, Poeryth." Sedra bites it out, that anger that was so poisonous at the beginning of their meeting darkening her expression as her fists clench. She tries to calm herself, glancing away. "If we hurry... Please, just go back and tell them to hurry..."
Poeryth
"None of us are taking our time. That I can definitely assure you of. You're not the only one who cares about her, Sedra, even if we don't all have the relationship you do. " Poe responds sharply, annoyed by the fact that the void knight is right, about her lack of control of the situation, the sense of being powerless that seems to be haunting her lately.
She lets out an unnecessary, reflexive sigh and seems to almost deflate. Where before she seemed to want to strike out at something, all that energy seems to have left her.
"We are all doing our best." she says more quietly. "I'm doing my best." she seems to be reminding herself more than anyone else.
Rhoelyn
The void knight almost says something, bites out some rejoinder to reflect her own impatient frustration. But instead she just grits her teeth and steps back and away.
"I have work to do."
Poeryth
"As do I." Poe responds in the same quiet tone as before. Her translucent phantom steed materializes next to her and she quickly mounts it.
"Be careful, Sedra. Please. We care about you too." she says, finally showing her concern for her friend.
Rhoelyn
Vasedra nods slightly and draws her swords. "I'm in no danger, here, Poeryth. Focus on tonight. Travel safely and swiftly."
Poeryth
Poe nods in return before turning her mount away and riding back in the direction which she came in. She glances back for a second, her brow furrowed, then increases her speed.
