Atulas is the eldest of the Lightstroke brothers, and always the bravest. The Lightstrokes were a noble line of paladins in Lordaeron, stretching back to before the founding of the Silver Hand. Atulas excelled at everything a paladin should be. Strength, bravery, leadership, and faith all came naturally to him. The eldest Lightstroke grew up as peer to a young Prince Arthas Menethil, and as the fated invasion of Northrend grew imminent, Atulas was on the short list of people the Prince wanted as a commander for his forces.
Atulas happily agreed. It was his duty, his honor. Once Arthas fell, and the cold dark descended upon the remaining Alliance war camps and fortresses, Atulas did his best to keep hope alive among the men. When the Prince returned, with gifts of cursed runeblades for the paladins who followed his crusade, Atulas resisted, but in the end was turned. And thus the Scourge gained one of its most fanatical generals.
Atulas was every bit the charismatic leader as a Death Knight, equally devoted to Death as he was to the Light. He served in Northrend as well as the plaguelands, razing the living with an army of ghouls at his beck and call, until the events of the battle of Light’s Hope, in which he as well as many other Death Knights were freed from the Lich King’s grip.
Since then, Atulas has returned to the Light, though it has not returned to him. He seeks redemption for the sins he committed when his mind was not his own, the least of which is slaying his own parents.
While Atulas does not consider himself a part of the Netherbane (and in fact, disapproves of their influence on his little brother) he would not hesitate to rush into battle for any of their defense.
