Araatris Valryss grew up in Dalaran, daughter of the mage Xyus and Archmage Kamorial Valryss. While she showed talent in magical studies, her excess energy was directed towards hunting and trapping in the nearby woods. When Dalaran was attacked by the Burning Legion, Araatris was out checking traps. She was able to escape the devastation, but lost sight in her left eye as result of an encounter with a demon.
She spent the next several years in the Stormwind orphanage until she was old enough to pursue her own path, when she decided to seek out a night elf named Tharion Greyseer somewhere in Kalimdor. However, still naive, she was tricked by a demon into causing havoc in the village of Auberdine. Her youthful ignorance had caused the death of one of the Sentinels, and Araatris was restrained and sentenced to execution. It was only at the behest of Tharion Greyseer that she was released instead of facing the consequences of her actions. The young human woman chose to follow the demon hunter path under her new Shan’do, being blinded and bound to a satyr named Malorin.
Years later, as the Burning Legion starts its third invasion of Azeroth, an errant curse struck Araatris down, splitting her soul and wreaking havoc on her body. Only with the help of Tharion’s mentor, Eraelan Netherbane, was Araatris’s situation stabilized. However, instead of waking up as herself, she suddenly found herself stripped of the demon hunter energies. Her body had been healed, and her scars had been removed. To her shock, she found herself staring into the blindfolded eyes of an unfamiliar night elf calling herself “Araatris” as well.
The errant soul had been removed from her and placed into a fresh physical form, and it was that form that retained the strength and agility that Araatris had developed for herself over the years. Since then, Araatris has struggled to find her way in a world where she was no longer the only one. She has found a new determination in studying under Eraelan Netherbane, and she currently travels with Vasedra, her friend and blade, executing the elder Netherbane’s will.
